Answer- Visual Disturbance

Visual disturbance or discomfort when reading text on a page or screen can be due to a number of different causes and it is important to have a full eye examination to rule out any underlying condition.

Visual disturbance is not a sign of dyslexia, but some dyslexic individuals do experience visual disturbance which can cause discomfort when reading. Visual disturbance can also be experienced by individuals who are not dyslexic

For an adult or child experiencing any type of visual disturbance when reading text on a page or screen, we would recommend a sight test with a qualified optometrist.

If you need help finding a suitable optometrist in your area, the Association of Optometrists can sign post you to local information which may include NHS providers. Visit: www.aop.org.uk
OR
Visit: The British Association of Behavioural Optometrists: British Association of Behavioural Optometrists - Home (babo.co.uk) It has helpful information and a directory of accredited BOs.

Some people who experience visual disturbance report that the use of a coloured overlay or wearing tinted lenses provides a more comfortable reading experience, but there is a mixed body of evidence on whether this is effective.
